2012 – Number 6: Leave Your Body Behind You

Richard Hawley had passed me by until this album,  Standing At The Sky’s Edge.

Not surprising – given the album and single titles –  it’s a psychedelic affair, but accessible in a warm summery way and very pastoral if you will allow me to be pseudo-intellectual for a moment. However the ‘video’ clearly did not break the bank….

  1. Fantastic song – wasn’t sure if it was ‘released’ seperately from the album – so left it off my list but otherwise would have been Top 10.

My Number 6 – Pelican by The Maccabees
This is the track that got me into the album; angular and anthemic in equal

  2. Depending on what mood I’m in, either “Leave Your Body Behind You” or “Seek It” (my number 16) are my favourite tracks from the Sheffield songsmith’s psychedelic offering.

As for “Pelican”, yes, it was the track that got me into the album too, although my own personal choice was “Went Away”, which just failed to break into my top 20.

The Maccabees were much played at the start of 2012, as was my next choice – one which we’ve already discussed at length, and another which gained exposure through the murky world of advertising. Number 6…

  3. Hope you don’t mind me posting my number 5 early today as we’re just about to head up north for a couple of days and opportunities may be limited. Anyway, it’s yet another example to make a big impression on me in the early part of the year. Taken from the debut album “Rise Ye Sunken Ships” I particularly enjoy the desperate delivery of the vocals. See what you think…

  4. Yes, the ‘desperate’ vocals do remind me of the Arcade Fire, strangely, as does the insistent ‘marching’ percussions. Hadn’t heard it before but very impressed, I like it a lot. And it doesn’t overstay it’s welcome….
